Greenville Technical Charter High School (GTCHS) ranked as a top school in SC

October 24, 2023

Greenville Technical Charter High School (GTCHS) ranked Excellent on the SC Department of Education State Report Cards and is currently ranked as the #1 best charter school in South Carolina and #5 in the list of top public high schools in the state by Niche. GTCHS credits their success to a mastery learning concept, smaller class sizes, innovative teaching practices, and the rigor created by taking college classes on the college campus.

The SC Department of Education provides information about each school and district, including test performance, teacher qualifications, student safety, awards, parent involvement and much more.  Statewide, 22.2% of schools receive an excellent ranking, and GTCHS is in the top 6% of all public high schools in the state of SC.

Niche, an authority in connecting students and families with the best educational options, bases its rankings on key statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, supplemented by valuable insights from student and parent reviews. These rankings serve as a vital resource to help students and families make informed decisions when selecting the right educational institution for their needs. GTCHS moved from being ranked as a top 10 public high school to #5 this year.

School Digger, an extensive and reliable database of schools nationwide, has also rated GTCHS above 97% of high schools in South Carolina, further emphasizing the school’s commitment to excellence in education.

U.S.News and World Report ranked GTCHS in the silver category, placing GTCHS among the top 30% of high schools in the nation. It’s important to note that a key component of U.S.News and World Report college readiness rankings are based on the number of students who earned qualifying scores in Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. This assessment method does not fully represent the achievements of dual enrollment schools such as GTCHS, which provide students with the ability to enroll in college classes as high school students. GTCHS adheres to the philosophy that dual credit programs located on a college campus provide superior college and career readiness. Annually, an average of 60% of GTCHS students graduate with 24 or more college credits and this year 14 students are on track to obtain their Associate’s Degree of Arts or Science.

These accolades reflect GTCHS’s dedication to providing the highest standard of education to its students and solidify its position as a leading institution for academic excellence and student success. As a non-merit based Public Charter High School, the school’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and personalized learning opportunities sets it apart. The Class of 2023 had a 100% graduation rate with an average graduation rate of 99% over the last seven years.
