January 31, 2019
On January 21, Greenville Technical College celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday with a day of service in keeping with the civil rights leader’s legacy of bringing people together.
Over 180 volunteers from the college, the community, TD Bank, and Duke Energy packaged 47,000 meals that will be distributed through Boys and Girls Club, Circles, Communities in Schools, First Impressions, Frazee Center, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Holy Ground, Loaves and Fishes, Meals on Wheels, Overcomers, Poe Mill Achievement Center, Project Host, Rapid Re-Housing, Renewal, Rescue Mission, Salvation Army and United Ministries. In addition, Greenville Technical College’s Caring Corner, which provides emergency food assistance, received a portion of the meals.
The event is made possible through the generosity of TD Bank. A 15,000 gift from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, supports the MLK Day of Service, a 9/11 Remembrance Day and its service projects, Financial Literacy Week, and Budget-Con, a day aimed at financial education.
