Greenville Technical College signs transfer agreement with WGU

September 2, 2025

With the recent signing of a transfer institution agreement, Greenville Technical College (GTC) graduates will now be able to seamlessly transfer to online Western Governors University (WGU) to continue pursuing their higher education goals. Additionally, GTC graduates and employees will be able to apply for specially designated WGU Community College Partner Scholarships valued at up to $3,500 each.

Founded in 1997 by a bipartisan group of governors, WGU is an accredited, nonprofit university offering more than 80 bachelor’s and master’s degrees and certificate programs in business, technology, health care and K-12 education. WGU’s asynchronous competency-based programs are designed to fit into busy work and home schedules and create pathways to opportunity.

Tuition is around $4,000 per six-month term for most WGU bachelor’s degree programs, and students can take as many classes as they wish within a term with the consent of their assigned program mentor. More than 7,300 WGU alumni live in South Carolina.
As a member of Community Colleges of Appalachia, GTC also offers its graduates and staff who wish to attend WGU the opportunity to apply for WGU’s Learn Where You Live Scholarship.

“Our mission is to empower individuals by providing access, change lives by working to achieve success for all, and reshape communities through shared economic prosperity,” said Dr. Candice Lewis, vice president for learning and workforce development at Greenville Technical College. “We greatly appreciate this partnership with Western Governors University that supports our mission, allowing students to transfer seamlessly and graduates and employees to apply for scholarships.”

“With its robust academic offerings, award-winning online programs, and strong ties to the military community, Greenville Technical College is a perfect partner for WGU,” said Kimberly K. Estep, Ph.D., senior vice president, Southeast Region, for WGU. “Both of our organizations are committed to delivering high-quality, affordable, career-oriented pathways to education, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”
