April 10, 2023

The Greenville Triumph’s U-13 Boys Premier team won silver in their division and Greenville Liberty U-19 Girls Elite team secured bronze competing in the 2023 USL Academy Cup tournament in Tampa, Florida from March 30 – April 2.

In addition to the Greenville Liberty U-19 teams’ bronze metal, Greenville native and second-year veteran of the Greenville Liberty, Autumn Cayelli received the 2023 Golden Boot Award as the highest goal-scorer in the U19 Girls Super Group division of the tournament with a total of five goals.

“We’re proud of each teams’ performance this weekend and how they represented the talent of soccer players in the Upstate,” said Head Coach and Technical Director of the Liberty Julie Carlson. “The selection process provides players the opportunity to perform in front of scouts for a US Soccer Olympic sanctioned event. Our goal is to put the best talent in the Upstate on a stage to be seen. We observed tremendous growth in the talent of the players throughout the weekend. We are honored to have the support of our club and sponsors to offer this opportunity for players looking to advance and showcase their talent.”

The Greenville Triumph Academy Cup team competed in the U-13 Premier division with players ranging from ages 11-13, and the Greenville Liberty Academy Cup team competed in the U-19 Elite division with players’ ages ranging from 15-18.

Each team featured players from the Upstate and Asheville, NC areas and had several players representing Upstate Soccer Clubs such as CESA, CASA, United FC and Spartanburg United.

The Greenville Triumph and Greenville Liberty Soccer Club Academy platform is designed to align with the USL League One and USL W League and provide a pathway for player development and coaching education. Players for each team were selected through an open evaluation process held in December and January by Greenville Triumph and Greenville Liberty Soccer Club staff.

The USL Academy Cup featured 3 group-stage matches between clubs in the same age group and division, followed by a Championship/Final match or Placement match on the final day, depending on the club’s standings.

The Greenville Triumph USL League One and Greenville Liberty USL W League teams are playing their 2023 season at Furman University’s Paladin Stadium as the soccer club works toward construction of a multi-use stadium to host matches as early as 2024.

The Triumph kicked off its fifth season at the end of March, and Greenville Liberty will begin its second season in May. For tickets and information, visit www.greenvilletriumph.com and www.greenvilleliberty.com.
