Greenville Women Giving Awards $70,000 to Urban League of the Upstate for Right Steps Juvenile Diversion Program

May 10, 2017

Greenville Women Giving has awarded a $70,000 grant to expand Right Steps, a signature program addressing juvenile diversion in Greenville County. The gift will allow the Urban League of the Upstate to nearly double the capacity of the program.

“I’m incredibly honored and grateful to the members of Greenville Women Giving for making a huge impact on our organization. In Greenville County, over 800 young adults committed punishable misdemeanors. Without intervention, those students are 75% more likely to end up in our prison system. A program like Right Steps is quintessential to providing the mentoring that young adults need to make better choices.”

In our 2016 fiscal year, 109 juveniles completed the Right Steps program. After completion, only 2% had a second misdemeanor reported. The grant will provide for up to 75 more juveniles per year to have access to this exclusive program.
