Greenwood Genetic Center’s Saul selected for Riley Institute Leadership Program

COLUMBIA, SC – September 9, 2010 – Dr. Robert A. Saul, Senior Clinical Geneticist at the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC), has been accepted to the Upstate Diversity Leaders Initiative through Furman University’s Riley Institute. Chosen by nomination and application, participants in the Diversity Leadership Initiative (DLI) are statewide leaders from all demographic groups and sectors—corporate, non-profit, faith-based, education and public officials—who build leadership skills while also examining and pursuing solutions to challenges and opportunities most pressing to our communities.
“Dr. Saul is the perfect choice for this leadership program and will represent our center and community with the passion and focus he brings to each of his many roles,” said Roger E. Stevenson, M.D., GGC Director. “His classmates are privileged to learn with him, and I look forward to seeing Greenwood and the GGC benefit from the knowledge he will gain from this elite program.”
Dr. Saul has been a faculty member of the Greenwood Genetic Center since 1981. He is actively involved in the evaluation, counseling, and treatment of children and adults affected by genetic disorders. He also serves as director for the GGC’s post-graduate genetics training program, the only such program in South Carolina and one of only 43 accredited training programs in the nation.
Dr. Saul is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics (1981) and American Board of Medical Genetics (1982). He is active in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section of Genetics and Birth Defects , AAP Committee on Genetics, South Carolina Chapter of the AAP, American Society of Human Genetics, American College of Medical Genetics Board of Directors (2007-2013), and Association of Professors of Human and Medical Genetics. Dr. Saul is also past President of the Greenwood Area Chamber of Commerce.

The DLI at the Riley Institute is a ground-breaking program and is making great strides toward training better leaders with a broad vision for our state.”
