Greer Relief responds to federal shutdown & SNAP delays
November 11, 2025Greer Relief remains committed to stabilizing and empowering our neighbors as the effects of the federal shutdown continue to impact families across our community. Delays in SNAP benefits and lost wages for federal employees have led to an immediate rise in food insecurity. In response, Greer Relief has shifted operations to ensure that no neighbor faces these challenges alone.
To meet the rapidly increasing need for food assistance, Greer Relief has temporarily transitioned from our Choice Pantry model to Crisis Food Assistance. Crisis food distribution is currently offered during our regular assistance hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We are now distributing up to 100 food orders each day. These food packages are prepared to support households of two, with adjustments made for larger families. More information about how to receive assistance can be found at greerrelief.org.
Beginning this week, Greer Relief will also launch mobile food distributions to reach neighbors who have limited access to transportation or whose schedules prevent them from visiting our primary location. Mobile food distributions will take place at BP Edwards Park in Sunnyside from 10:00 to 11:30 AM (or until 100 food orders have been distributed) and at the Needmore Center from 5:00 to 7:00 PM (or until 100 food orders have been distributed). Additional neighborhood distribution sites will be announced as they are confirmed.
Financial assistance continues to be available only as funding is provided. We are seeing a staggering increase in emergency requests, and our ability to respond depends heavily on the support of our community. We are doing everything we can to provide stability and relief where it is needed most.
Greer Relief is urgently seeking both volunteers and donations to sustain this crisis response. Volunteers are needed to pack food, sort supplies, and assist with distribution. Community members interested in volunteering may contact Tom at [email protected] or register through our volunteer calendar at greerrelief.org/volunteer. Financial contributions are also critical at this time and can be made securely at greerrelief.charityproud.org/
Greer has a long and proud tradition of neighbors helping neighbors. When we show up for one another, we do more than solve immediate needs—we strengthen the bonds of community and create long-lasting pathways of hope. We will continue to serve, pray, and stand alongside our neighbors for as long as this shutdown impacts families.
