Habitat Greenville raises walls on 2018 CEO build
March 5, 2018On Thursday, Upstate partner CEOs, Habitat Greenville team and community members kicked off the sixth annual CEO Build for future homeowner Betty Powers and her son Quinn. This marks the start of construction for Habitat Greenville’s 350th new home.
28 CEOs and their respective organizations, led by former Michelin executive Dick Wilkerson, are supporting the 2018 CEO Build (see full list below). According to Habitat Greenville President and CEO Monroe Free, “We all know there is an affordable housing crisis in our community. It really is a testament to our business community that so many local leaders have chosen to support this home and this family in their quest for strength, stability and self-reliance through homeownership.”
Thursday’s wall raising is a significant milestone in the Powers family’s journey to peace of mind and stability. As a mother of a child with disabilities, Betty can now feel secure that Quinn will always have a safe place to call home. She will complete 25 hours of Habitat’s homeownership education classes as well as 200 hours of “sweat equity,” building her home and the homes of other Habitat homeowners. She will pay an affordable, zero interest mortgage for the home.
