Hammond School earns Wellness Inspired School Environment grant

April 18, 2019

Hammond was honored on March 19 in Columbia, S.C. by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation for receiving a Wellness Inspired School Environment (WISE) grant.

In South Carolina, 55 schools, including Hammond, received Wellness Inspired School Environment (WISE) grants to further health and wellness efforts with Healthier Generation. Hammond is using its WISE grant for its Fit & Focused Kids program, including Bal-A-Vis-X equipment for students. Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of approximately 300 exercises done with sand-filled bags, racquetballs and a Bal-A-Vis-X balance board. The movements are a series of balance, auditory and vision exercises enabling the whole mind-body system to experience the natural symmetrical flow of a pendulum.

“We are honored to receive the WISE grant from BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation,” said Chris Angel, Hammond headmaster. “At Hammond we believe in engaging the mind and body and encourage wellness as an accompaniment to academics.”

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
