Hammond, an independent school offering students pre-kindergarten through grade 12 a thoughtfully developed academic experience, announces that its upper school’s math team earned first place in the SCISA Division 1 State High School Math Meet competition. The competition, open to students in grades 9-12, took place in early February. A total of 61 teams representing 36 schools participated in the two-day event.
Members of Hammond’s math team include Dami Olutosi, Karl Cao, Tobi Ogunfowora, Vicki Li and Elsa Saine. Hammond teacher Patrick Rybarczyk served as team sponsor. Additionally, Ogunfowora, a 11th grader at Hammond, won first place in the individual competition.
During the competition, all students take a one-hour multiple choice math test consisting of 50 questions. Following the test, each team member, one at a time, participates in a speed round of five questions.
“We are proud of the effort and hard work these mathletes put into achieving a state championship win against stiff competition,” said Chris Angel, headmaster of Hammond School. “We take pride in identifying our students’ interests and talents and supporting them in every way possible to help cultivate and nurture those talents.”
