Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College Releases Ticket Packages for 2013-2014 Performing Arts Season

COLUMBIA, SC – June 2013 – Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College has released ticket packages for its second performing arts season, which runs from October 2013 to May 2014. Midlands Technical College will present award-winning theater and dance companies like Aquila Theatre from New York and Brian Sanders’ JUNK from Philadelphia, as well as new twists on classic forms like The Fantasticks, returning favorites like the Holiday Pops, big-brand touring shows like The Onion LIVE!, and innovative programs like the HT@MTC Performance Incubator. Signature Package and Flex Pass options are on sale now, and individual tickets will go on sale August 1, 2013 at http://www.harbisontheatre.org.
“We were floored by the warm welcome we received from our community during the inaugural season,” says Katie Fox, Director of Theatre Operations. “Thousands of people showed up for the Signature and Family Series. We know, though, that not everyone has passed through our doors, and this season we’re expanding our programming in hopes of introducing more audience members to Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. “
Fox continues, “One thing is for sure – whether our topic is space exploration, censorship, love, or cats chasing laser pointers, every show this season brings high-caliber, professional performers and entertainment to Midlands audiences.”

Join leading cast members from the Tony Award-Winning Broadway smash JERSEY BOYS as they fill the theatre with doo wop performances of pop songs from across the decades. During this cabaret performance, the vocalists weave stories of their upbringings and life in the music business with doo wop arrangements of hits from The Skyliners, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse and more. With soulful pop music as the engine, The Doo Wop Project will delight you with goosebump-inducing harmonies and finger-snapping choreography. Feel free to sing along!

Brian Sanders’ JUNK presents Patio Plastico Plus
Off the Wall Choreography with Found Objects

Anything but traditional, the troupe of Brian Sanders’ JUNK uses found objects, from pogo sticks to plastic jugs, from suspension ladders to snorkeling masks, to create an onstage world that straddles contemporary dance and theatre. Sanders, formerly of the MOMIX company of dancer-illusionists, is known for creating athletic, contemporary dance pieces that are in turn intense and moving, then light and comical. This performance will leave a smile on the face of both the new and the experienced dance fan.

Exploring Mars with NASA Engineer Kobie Boykins

A young, dynamic engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Kobie Boykins has become a household name in Mars exploration. A vibrant storyteller, Boykins will share his passion for exploring the Red Planet and offer anecdotes about designing and deploying robotic Mars rovers on multiple successful missions. His Opportunity rover, which only needed to last 90 days, has successfully transmitted data from Mars since deployment back in January 2004. Boykins’ recent work includes the design of actuators on Curiosity, the car-sized, roving science lab that has been identifying conditions suitable for ancient life on Mars since 2012.
