Harbor Logistics’ Goose Creek project to boost S.C. soybean exports
February 23, 2026Harbor Logistics, a Charleston-based provider of integrated logistics and drayage solutions, broke ground on its new soybean transloading facility in Goose Creek on February 19.
Once complete, the facility will support soybean transloading and export consolidation, creating a streamlined pathway from farm to port. Soybeans were South Carolina’s largest crop by acreage last year, with more than 350,000 acres harvested statewide.
The project is supported in part by a Growing Agribusiness Fund grant approved in November 2025 through the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) to enhance agribusiness infrastructure and expand export opportunities. The Andersons, a U.S. agribusiness and trade partner, will play a key role in international container operations tied to the facility.
Strategically located near major terminals operated by the South Carolina Ports Authority, the Goose Creek site builds on strong export momentum. In 2025, the Port of Charleston moved more than 3 million bushels of soybeans through a coordinated, multi-agency effort to address the state’s soybean surplus.
The event featured remarks from business and government leaders as well as project partners, including Kevin Shuba, CEO and Terry Taylor, Process Manager, Harbor Logistics; Corey McClary, Workforce Development Manager, Berkeley County Economic Development; Byron Miller, Chief Commercial Officer and VP of Marketing, South Carolina Ports Authority; Norris Thigpen, Director, Office of Agribusiness Development, South Carolina Department of Agriculture and Thomas Mershon, Profit Center Manager-International Containers, The Andersons.
Speakers emphasized the importance of infrastructure investment that supports the state’s farmers, strengthens export capacity and reinforces Berkeley County’s position as a growing logistics and agribusiness hub. They also noted Harbor Logistics’ investment in the region and the collaboration among project partners to expand export capacity for South Carolina farmers.
“This project aligns directly with the strong momentum we’re seeing at our ports and with the state’s broader agribusiness strategy,” said Kevin Shuba, CEO of Harbor Logistics. “By investing in infrastructure that supports farmers and global trade from our own backyard, we’re demonstrating our confidence in Berkeley County and Goose Creek, and in South Carolina’s ability to compete on a global stage.”
