Hargray Announces the Acquisition of Two Lowcountry Cable Systems

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – March 8, 2012 – Beaufort County-based telecommunications provider Hargray Communications announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire two cable systems from Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (“Shentel”). The two cable systems serve Westbury Park in Bluffton, SC and The Carlyle at Godley Station in Pooler, GA.
Once the transaction closes, Hargray will be transferring Shentel customers onto Hargray’s network to enable it to provide current Shentel customers with telephone, television and Internet service from Hargray. Upon completion of this integration, Shentel customers will have more HD content, the highest speed internet service available in the area (with residential offerings of 20 Mbps), and the ability to bundle telephone service with their internet and television service.
Hargray anticipates that the transaction will close in approximately 60 days, and that the conversion of Shentel’s current customers onto Hargray’s network will be completed in the Summer of 2012. Hargray recently began migrating customers from a Shentel cable system serving the Reserve at Woodbridge in Bluffton, SC and this conversion will follow a similar pattern.

Shentel customers will also be eligible for Hargray’s Rewards Program, a unique plan in the cable industry in which all customers, new and existing, who subscribe to telephone, television and Internet services from Hargray automatically receive a $10 discount on their Internet service and are eligible for three free upgrades valued at $10/month each for $30/month in savings. Upgrades include an Internet speed upgrade, a DVR, three Movies-on-Demand per month and more. All customers who subscribe to two services automatically receive a $5 discount on their Internet service and are eligible for two free upgrades valued at $10/month each for $20/month in savings.
