Hartness announces Farm Manager to oversee sustainability and agricultural efforts
December 8, 2021Hartness, a 449-acre urban village founded by the Hartness family and located on Greenville’s Eastside, is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen McRae as Farm Manager. McRae will oversee the development and growth of the agricultural programs at Hartness and will also be responsible for fostering vendor, volunteer, and partner relationships for the Hartness Farm.
“The Hartness Farm differentiates Hartness as a community like no other and we look forward introducing new farm initiatives under Stephen’s leadership,” said Sean Hartness, CEO of Hartness Development. “His extensive background in management and agriculture will help to further elevate our sustainability and agricultural efforts as we enhance and embrace the existing natural amenities at Hartness.”
McRae brings years of experience in agriculture and livestock management to Hartness most recently as Food Hub Manager at Swamp Rabbit Café and Grocery where he managed quality control standards for incoming produce. He also worked as Livestock Manager at Greenbrier Farms where he managed the farm’s livestock program consisting of cows and hogs. McRae is a United States Marine and served from 2010-2013.
The Hartness Farm is located within the Hartness community and serves many functions, including offering an organic and sustainable food source for residents and the village’s restaurants which are Village Kitchen and the forthcoming Patterson.
The Hartness community’s design adheres to the planning principles of New Urbanism and Town Planner Lew Oliver’s vision for Hartness was to return to the tenets of Traditional Neighborhood Development, whereby neighbors connect with each other through pedestrian connectivity, green spaces, and a mixed-use village center that offers entertainment and daily conveniences.
