Hartness announces opening of Village Kitchen Restaurant

May 27, 2021

New restaurant on Greenville’s Eastside offers an elevated fast-casual dining experience in a unique setting that celebrates its location within the Hartness community

Hartness, a new 444-acre urban village founded by the Hartness family and located on Greenville’s Eastside, is excited to announce the opening of Village Kitchen restaurant. Situated within the Village Center in the Hartness community on South Highway 14, the new restaurant offers an elevated fast-casual dining experience with a menu created by Hartness’ Executive Chef Tanner Marino.

“We are thrilled to open our doors and invite everyone in to enjoy Chef Marino’s menu, as well as Village Kitchen’s bright setting and warm hospitality,” said Jonathan Brashier, general manager of Village Kitchen and the forthcoming Hotel Hartness. “Whether you are stopping by to grab a coffee and pastry to go, meet over a casual business lunch, have family dinner or spend an evening on our patio with a glass of wine, we are a destination for amazing food, memorable experiences and exceptional service.”

Village Kitchen features a menu of specialty coffee and breakfast offerings in the morning and a Southern influenced menu throughout the rest of the day. A centerpiece of the restaurant’s kitchen is a stone hearth oven serving up flatbreads and a farm-to-table menu perfectly complements a curated selection of craft wines, beer, ready to drink canned cocktails and sparkling juices. Must-try dishes include: Chicken and Waffles featuring crispy fried chicken, a cornmeal waffle, and Red Clay hot honey; Avocado Toast featuring 9 grain bread, avocado spread, Red Clay everything spice, Roma tomato and scallion; and the Fig and Pig Flatbread featuring a goat cheese base, prosciutto, brown turkey figs, red wine reduction and arugula.

To build the menu, Chef Marino took special care to support and source from local and regional businesses, farms and purveyors whenever possible. Village Kitchen proudly partners with Methodical Coffee, Tyger River Smart Farm, Charleston Tea Garden, Swamp Rabbit Café & Grocery, Mission Grape Distributors and Red Clay among others to offer local artisan goods and cuisine made from the highest quality and freshest ingredients. Chef Marino will also enjoy the unique opportunity to harvest and use seasonal produce from Hartness’ own on-site farm.

“We are honored to work with so many incredible local and regional farms and purveyors,” said Executive Chef Tanner Marino. “When guests visit Village Kitchen, they will be served the best possible ingredients in elevated yet approachable dishes.”

Village Kitchen’s warm and inviting setting features a thoughtful design that celebrates its location and offers tables for indoor dining and an outdoor patio for al fresco dining. Design details include a bar lined with over 100 vintage glass Tom’s bottles, referencing Tom Hartness’ acquisition of the Pepsi-Cola franchise in Greenville in 1940, and artwork by Matteo Miles, who was commissioned to create a mural that depicts the Hartness history of innovation and nods to the estate’s past. To do so, the acclaimed local artist referenced old blueprints, patents and photographs and studied the family’s history of entrepreneurship and aviation, as well as the Hartness’ legacy in Greenville.

Village Kitchen is situated within Hartness, an innovative, mixed-use community that incorporates the Hartness family estate. For three generations their homestead welcomed friends and family and the Hartness’ have long envisioned transforming it into a community built to last for future generations. The result is a vibrant village thoughtfully created in the traditional neighborhood design.

The restaurant will be open Tuesday – Friday from 7 am – 9 pm and Saturday from 8 am – 9 pm. Village Kitchen is located at 2000 Society Street, Suite 100, Greenville, SC 29615 and can be contacted by calling 864.686.7900.
