Harvest Hope and Transitions announce new partnership to serve the unhoused community

March 31, 2025

Harvest Hope Food Bank and Transitions Homeless Center announced a new partnership focused on expanding meal services for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Midlands. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will occur on Monday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Transitions, 2025 Main Street, Columbia, SC.

As part of this collaboration, Harvest Hope will take over daily kitchen operations at Transitions, which was formerly managed by the Salvation Army. The partnership will allow for the delivery of six hundred hot, nutritious meals per day to those in need.

Since opening in 2011, the Transitions Kitchen has served over 2.7 million meals. It receives support from over 1,000 volunteers who help prepare and serve meals annually for residents and Day Center guests. “This partnership marks a major step forward in addressing food insecurity among our unhoused neighbors,” said Erinn Rowe, CEO of Harvest Hope. “We’re honored to serve in this capacity and to help provide both nourishment and hope.”

“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to meeting people’s most basic needs with dignity,” added Craig Currey, CEO of Midlands Housing Alliance. “Nutritious meals are foundational to recovery, stability, and long-term housing. We are grateful to have Harvest Hope join in this work.”

The event will include remarks from leadership, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, volunteer service, and a tour of the facilities. Attendees will meet staff and volunteers dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey to stability.

About Harvest Hope Food Bank
Harvest Hope is building a hunger-free tomorrow in 20 counties across South Carolina. Rescuing food from stores that is at risk of being discarded, as well as sourcing food from the community and producers, they distribute it to local food pantries and through multiple feeding programs. These programs provide food for some of SC’s most vulnerable citizens – children, seniors, and rural residents who don’t have access to reliable transportation to grocery stores. Annually, Harvest Hope provides over 24 million meals to neighbors in need across their service area. Learn more at harvesthope.org.
