Harvest Hope Food Bank receives $12,000 donation from The Darden Foundation

August 9, 2018

Harvest Hope Food Bank announced a $12,000 grant from The Darden Foundation to assist in their efforts of providing help to people facing hunger. The generous unrestricted grant will allow Harvest Hope to allocate funds in areas the community needs the most.

“One in 7 people struggle with hunger in our 20-county service area, including 86,000 children,” said Keith Ferrell, interim CEO at Harvest Hope. “Hunger does not discriminate and there are many children, families and seniors who turn to our food bank for help.  The Darden Foundation’s donation will go a long way for the people in our community.”

Harvest Hope works every day to provide healthy food for the people of South Carolina. In their 20-county territory, over 300,000 individuals are food insecure. This means they will miss at least one meal over the course of a month. Harvest Hope is South Carolina’s largest food bank and serves 38,000 individuals in an average week.

The Darden Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity in communities across the United States. Their commitment to help is demonstrated through their partnership with Feeding America and their network of 200 food banks across the nation.

Feeding America has worked alongside The Darden Foundation for six years in the fight to end hunger. Thanks to their ongoing support, the Feeding America network has been able to help provide even more nutritious meals to families in need.
