Healthport's Solution Services Division to Relocate to Downtown Columbia, SC
June 18, 2009Top-25 Healthcare Information Technology Company Will Move 140 Employees to Downtown by Year-end
ATLANTA, GA – June 22, 2009 – HealthPort, a top-25 company in the healthcare information technology industry, plans to relocate its main solution services facility to Downtown Columbia, South Carolina, by the end of the year. The company has recently signed a lease for more than 30,000 square feet of office space at 1401 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201.
HealthPort is headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, with the Solutions Services division currently located in Northeast Columbia. HealthPort was formed in June 2007, from the merger of two leading health information companies – Smart Document Solutions and Companion Technologies. The company serves over 10,000 hospitals and 27,000 physicians, offering a wide range of solutions designed to improve business processes and help connect the paper reality of today with the electronic health records of tomorrow.
“We never seriously considered the possibility of moving downtown due to the relocation costs,” said Larry Armold, Vice President and General Manager, Solutions Division. “However, we were able to identify several options that met our goals and objectives. This new location resulted in a solution that not only fits our budget, but also provides a more efficient, culturally desirable work environment for our associates. We look forward to being a part of the City Center’s business community.”
“The central business district in Columbia is a great place to be located for HealthPort employees,” said Ronnie Cannon of CresaPartners. “Taking advantage of the current market conditions, we negotiated a lease for office space that provides all the amenities of a pedestrian-friendly area, at an economical rate, that more than offsets the costs of relocation.”
CresaPartners, the largest pure tenant representation firm in North America, assisted HealthPort Technologies, LLC in its decision to relocate. Ronnie Cannon, Principal, and Tom Tindall, Managing Principal, of CresaPartners, represented HealthPort in the financial analysis of alternatives and lease negotiations.
“With the impending departure of SCANA, we welcome HealthPort’s more than 140 employees to Downtown Columbia,” said Bob Coble, Mayor. “This is certainly a “win-win” situation for both the City of Columbia and the company.”
David Loy, Executive Management and Leasing (EM&L), represented the owner of the 1401 Main Street property, MS Joint Ventures. The 13 story building was constructed in 1976 and has more than 200,000 square feet of rentable space. SCANA previously occupied several floors in the building before moving to its new corporate campus.
