Help Our Heroes: Leadership Georgetown launches campaign to support Georgetown County school nurses
March 12, 2026Our school nurses are often the unsung heroes of the classroom, providing more than just medical care—they provide comfort, dignity, and essentials to students in need. The Leadership Georgetown County Class 33, in partnership with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce, is calling on the community to help us give back to the 19 dedicated nurses of the Georgetown County School District.
Many people don’t realize that when a student needs a fresh pair of socks, a hair tie, or basic hygiene items, our nurses often pay for these supplies out of their own pockets. “These supplies are not always provided by the district,” explains Lead Nurse Ashley McCall.
We are moving to change that. Made up of individuals representing area businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations across Georgetown County, Class 33 is renovating a dedicated meeting and training space at the Howard Center, which will feature a fully stocked supply closet for the nurses.
How You Can Help:
- Shop the Drive: Join us Saturday, April 25, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Georgetown Walmart (1310 N. Fraser Street). We are collecting toothbrushes, body wipes, cold compresses, and more.
- Donate Online: Prefer to shop from home? Use our Amazon Wish List to have items like disposable vomit bags and pill envelopes sent directly to the nurses via St. Christopher’s Thrift Shop.
- Invest in the Future: Financial donations help us purchase specialized thermometers and building materials for the new training facility.
Funds for specialized thermometers and building materials can be made through GoFundMe account set up by the Leadership Class or by mailing checks payable to the Chamber Foundation for a Sustainable Georgetown County to the Georgetown County Chamber, ATTN Leadership Class 33, 531 Front St., Georgetown, SC 29440. Receipts for tax-deductible donations are available upon request.
Together, we can ensure our nurses have the tools they need to keep our children healthy and confident.
