Help Raise Money and Awareness for Breast Cancer by Carving a Pumpkin…UNDER WATER!

October 26, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Saturday, October 31st marks the return of Wateree Dive Center’s “Carve for a Cure” underwater jack-o-lantern carving contest – but this isn’t your average run of the mill contest, as the carvers will be creating their pumpkin works of art 20 feet below the surface of Lake Murray.

Andy Ogburn, owner of Wateree Dive, is proud to bring back the event after 14 years.  “I think it is a great way to create a splash and raise awareness through a sport that so many of us are passionate about,” says Ogburn.

The Carve for a Cure event kicks off at 10:30 Saturday morning at the Irmo side of the Lake Murray Dam.  In addition to the underwater contest, local chef Jeff Urso will be manning the grill, there will be entertainment for kids, and of course, the judging of the jack-o-lanterns.

Members of the breast cancer survivor group, the Ta-Tini’s will be among the judges.  Fund raising efforts will come through the sale of Wateree Pumpkin Carving t-shirts, the BBQ lunch, and the carving entry fee.

Wateree Dive Center opened in 1977 and continues to serve the diving community of South Carolina with SSI instruction, SCUBA equipment, vacations, and more.
