Heyward Career and Technology Center’s SkillsUSA chapter wins multiple medals and recognitions in State Competition

Heyward Career and Technology Center’s SkillsUSA chapter won multiple medals and recognitions during the South Carolina SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Competition. The event was held March 2-5 at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.

The chapter won 16 gold medals during the state competition. The students who won gold medals have advanced to the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, which will be held June 23-28 in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, the chapter won ten silver medals and eight bronze medals.

Dreher High School students Oscar Merced and Kamryn Pressley-Cooley were elected as officers for the South Carolina SkillsUSA chapter.

Dr. Reginald China, the advisor of Heyward’s SkillsUSA chapter, was named the recipient of the South Carolina SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year award, recognizing his dedication and commitment to student success. Heyward’s chapter was named Chapter of the Year.

“We are incredibly proud of our students' achievements. Their success reflects their hard work, skills and the quality of career and technical education at Heyward Career and Technology Center,” said Dr. China.

In January 2025, Heyward’s SkillsUSA chapter was designated as a National Quality Chapter for the fifth consecutive year and is currently in consideration for the Chapter of Distinction award, the next tier in SkillsUSA’s Chapter Excellence Program.
