HGTC Foundation launches first-ever Giving Day to support student success

April 1, 2026

Community invited to give during 24-hour campaign with $10,000 matching opportunity

The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Foundation will host its first-ever HGTC Giving Day on Thursday, April 2, 2026, inviting faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community supporters to unite for a day of impact in support of student success.

HGTC Giving Day is a 24-hour philanthropic initiative designed to strengthen opportunities for students by supporting scholarships, academic programs, and essential resources that remove barriers to education and workforce advancement.

“This inaugural Giving Day represents the power of our HGTC community coming together with a shared purpose,” said Shannon Detzler, president and chief executive officer of the HGTC Foundation. “Every gift, regardless of size, directly supports our students and helps create pathways to success that change lives.”

Participants are encouraged to contribute in ways that reflect their personal connection to the College and its mission. Donors may choose specific programs or areas to support, ensuring their contributions align with their passions and priorities.

In addition to making a financial contribution, members of the HGTC community are encouraged to serve as ambassadors by promoting Giving Day and inspiring others to participate. By sharing messages across personal and professional networks and engaging on social media, supporters can help expand awareness and build momentum for the initiative.

HGTC Giving Day emphasizes three key ways to participate:

Invest: Make a gift to support HGTC students and programs. Donations can be made online at hgtcfoundation.org/donate/.
Inspire: Encourage classmates, colleagues, alumni, and friends to participate.
Impact: Engage on social media by liking, sharing, and posting about Giving Day.

To further amplify the impact of Giving Day, a private donor has pledged a $10,000 matching gift. Contributions made during HGTC Giving Day will be matched dollar for dollar, effectively doubling the impact of each donation while funds remain available.

“This is more than a fundraising effort,” Detzler said. “It is an opportunity to demonstrate what makes HGTC special. Our community is committed to opening doors, removing barriers, and creating meaningful opportunities for our students.”

The HGTC Foundation supports the mission of Horry-Georgetown Technical College by providing resources that enhance student success, promote academic excellence, and strengthen workforce development across the region.
