High school sports kick-off

July 16, 2018

Greenville County Schools is hosting its first annual gathering of GCS Athletic Directors, coaches, players and families to kick off the start of the 2018-2019 sports season.  The event will be held at Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Thursday, July 26 starting at 4pm.

“Games+ Building a Better Graduate with Athletics” will celebrate the passion that high school sports ignites and spotlight the benefits of participation.  Athletes don’t just play games, they build friendships, leadership, commitment and character.  Athletes are motivated to perform better academically. Last year GCS had 117 sports teams achieve a 4.0 GPA or better.

The event will begin with a media availability from 4-5:30pm where all 14 high school football coaches and select players will be prepared to talk about the upcoming season.  This is one stop shopping for pre-season interviews.

At 6pm doors will open for all players, parents and the public.  The informational session is an opportunity for fans of all ages to connect with their favorite coaches and players for autographs, photos and sports talk.

The program will begin at 7pm with a welcome and introduction from GCS Director of Athletics Darryl Nance.  Speakers include Craig Brown, owner of the Greenville Drive, Beth Paul, CEO of Bon Secours Wellness Arena, Sandi Morris, Greenville High graduate and Olympic high jump silver medalist and Dr. Greg Dale, Sports Psychologist at Duke University.

Join us to “tailgate” before the first practices on July 27.
