Historic Columbia Announces New Staff, Promotions

COLUMBIA, SC – Historic Columbia welcomes Evan Clements as director of grounds and announces the promotions of James Quint to director of education and Celia Galens to engagement coordinator.
Evan Clements has an extensive background in designing and maintaining landscapes and garden infrastructure. Clements comes to HC from Moore Farms Botanical Garden in Lake City, S.C., and previously worked at Black Pudding Farms. He holds a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia in Athens. As director of grounds, Clements will be responsible for overseeing the Hampton-Preston Garden Restoration Project.
Education coordinator at HC since 2008, James Quint holds a Master of Arts degree in museum studies from Indiana University and a bachelor of science in historic preservation from Southeast Missouri State University. As director of education, he oversees the visitor experience at Historic Columbia, including education initiatives, volunteer management, community events and the Gift Shop at Robert Mills.
Celia Galens has worked at and volunteered for Historic Columbia since 2008. She received her master’s in public history from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in history and social studies from Ohio State University. As engagement coordinator, she manages Historic Columbia’s adult, youth and family education initiatives and programming, as well as school-based programs and summer camp.

In November 1961, a small group of individuals intent on saving the Ainsley Hall House from demolition officially incorporated as the Historic Columbia Foundation. Over the next five decades the organization, which was founded on the premise of preservation and education, would take on the stewardship of seven historic properties in Richland County.
