Historic Victory: PC Women’s Basketball Team Triumphs in Big South Championship and Returns Home to Warm Welcome
March 11, 2024Presbyterian College’s women’s basketball team secured a historic triumph Sunday, clinching the Big South Championship for the first time in the program’s history. The Blue Hose dominated the finals, defeating the Radford Highlanders with a convincing score of 60-37. The victory not only marked a significant milestone for the team but also earned them an automatic bid to the prestigious NCAA Tournament also known as “the big dance.”
As the triumphant team returned home, a jubilant crowd gathered on Monday afternoon to extend a warm welcome. The enthusiastic group, displaying unwavering support, eagerly awaited the arrival of the champions. The atmosphere was electric as the team bus pulled in, accompanied by a police and fire truck escort, adding to the celebration. The community’s spirit and pride were palpable, reflecting the collective joy of witnessing their team make history.
“I am honestly speechless, I love these players so much. I think that the two words that I have used the most this year are resilient spirit and they have it. We beat a well coached basketball team,” said Coach Sharp. “Our defense was amazing. Assistant coaches never get enough credit, but everyone of these kids knows what I know, that I love them so much and I am so thankful for the effort and the pour in to the program. I am just really thankful to be here and to coach these awesome women.”

The championship game was a closely contested battle, with the first quarter ending in a narrow 12-10 lead for the Blue Hose. The second quarter showcased the team’s defensive prowess, heading into halftime with a slim 20-19 advantage. The 2023-24 Blue Hose women’s basketball team etched their names in history as the first-ever Big South Tournament winners from Presbyterian College. With a remarkable 20-win season, the team set a program record and showcased a commendable 15-point streak in the championship final.
