Spartanburg County Historical Association (SCHA) has hired Suzanne Brooks as its Executive Director. Brooks joins SCHA with experience in historic preservation, advocacy, education, and outreach. Brooks comes to Spartanburg from Columbia, SC where she worked as Rental Coordinator with Historic Columbia, managing the public and internal use of five historic properties. Also, Brooks worked in Washington, DC in legislation and policy, specializing in federal policy, and is very passionate about grassroots advocacy at the local and state levels. She received her master’s degree from Marymount University in Arlington, VA in Interior Design with a focus on Historic Interiors. Also, she holds post baccalaureate certification in Historic Preservation from UNC-Greensboro.

SCHA explores and preserves Spartanburg’s history through exhibits, tours, programs, and events for the community at its history museum in Chapman Cultural Center and three historic sites — Seay House, Price House, and Walnut Grove Plantation.
