Homes of Hope to host ribbon cutting for new affordable housing development in Berea
July 16, 202540 new single-family homes offer rental and homeownership opportunities in Greenville County
Homes of Hope announced the grand opening of Lakeview at Berea, a new affordable housing community located at 8699 Whitehorse Road in the Berea area of Greenville County. A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house will be held on Thursday, July 24 at 9:00 AM, celebrating a milestone development that helps meet the growing demand for affordable housing in the Upstate.
Developed in partnership with McGuinn Homes and TRG Communities, Lakeview at Berea includes a total of 40 single-family homes—22 for-sale units and 18 rental units—designed to offer both stability and opportunity for low-to-moderate income families.
The 22 beautiful for-sale homes are priced from the mid-to-upper $200s and range from approximately 1,200 to 1,400 square feet. Each home features either a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom or 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom floor plan, with both one-story and two-story designs available. These thoughtfully crafted homes offer an affordable path to homeownership without sacrificing quality or comfort.
The 18 rental homes offer the same floor plans and square footage as the for-sale homes, serving households earning from 30% to 120% AMI. These rental units provide high-quality housing options in an area where affordability is increasingly out of reach for many families.
“At Homes of Hope we are always thrilled when we are able to offer more affordable housing, especially now in times of high need and low supply,” said Don Oglesby, President & CEO of Homes of Hope. “Over 27 years Homes of Hope has developed 745 affordable homes for households earning low-to-moderate incomes.”
This project was made possible through the generous support of key partners, including CommunityWorks Carolina, South State Bank, South Carolina Community Loan Fund, Greenville County Redevelopment Authority, Wells Fargo, SC Department of Mental Health, Oobe Apparel Design Group, and Grace Church. Their combined investment made it possible to offer high-quality homes at price points accessible to working families.
“The successful completion of Lakeview at Berea underscores how vital committed and diverse financial partners are to making affordable housing a reality,” said Scott Williams, Director of Real Estate Development of Homes of Hope. “Each partner brought something essential to the table—flexibility, innovation, and a shared belief in the dignity of home. Without that collective effort, projects like this simply wouldn’t happen.”
