Horry County Department of Airports January 2018 passenger volumes up 18%

February 13, 2018

During January 2018, a total of 80,377 passengers passed through the Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), an increase of 18.1-percent compared to January 2017.

At MYR, total passenger traffic in January 2018, which includes enplanements and deplanements, totaled 80,377 compared to 68,066 in January 2017. The number of people arriving on flights, or deplanements, totaled 39,494 compared to 33,858 in 2017.

“January 2018 passenger counts were good, up 18-percent over last year” said Scott Van Moppes, director of airports. “The growth in January was fueled by American’s new nonstop air service from Washington DCA and Dallas-Ft Worth, plus Spirit’s and United’s new service from Newark to the Grand Strand.  Despite the impact of Winter Storm Grayson forcing airlines to cancel numerous flights at MYR and around the Southeast, January passenger traffic at the Myrtle Beach International Airport was the strongest since 2011.”
