Horry-Georgetown Technical College to unveil historical marker for 60th anniversary
January 20, 2026Local officials and educators will gather Thursday, Jan. 29, to unveil a new historical marker commemorating 60 years of service by Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
The 9 am ceremony at the HGTC Conway Campus celebrates the college’s 1966 founding and its six-decade legacy of providing workforce training and higher education in South Carolina. The marker, coordinated with the State Historic Preservation Office, recognizes the institution’s growth from a local technical center to a college offering more than 80 fields of study.
Representatives from the Horry County Council, the Horry County Historic Preservation Commission, and the college will participate in the unveiling. The marker is located at the front right corner of Building 1100 on the Conway campus.
“The unveiling ceremony commemorates the historical significance of Horry-Georgetown Technical College and its role in expanding access to higher education, workforce training, and economic opportunity,” the college stated in a media advisory.
