House plans to furlough additional week in February

February 3, 2016

House Speaker Jay Lucas (District 65-Darlington) announced that the House plans to furlough an additional week over February 15th, 2016.  Previously scheduled weeks include March 28th and April 4th, the two weeks following budget deliberations on the House floor.

“The South Carolina House of Representatives is committed to using our time in Columbia efficiently and purposefully. Throughout the years, the House has repeatedly expressed a need to shorten the number of days we spend in Columbia as a way to save money. To show our commitment to this cause, we plan to take an additional week off in February and save South Carolina taxpayers approximately $77,000. Shortening the length of session appears to be making some progress in the Senate and we are hopeful that both Chambers can work together to reach this shared goal. Upon returning in late February, the House will continue to address a number of top priority issues that remain on our list before the conclusion of session in June.”
