HT@MTC launches 2019-2020 season with big names and local favorites

The 2019-2020 season is here with a diverse list of acts joining Midlands audiences in the coming year. The Texas Tenors return, Edwin McCain makes his HT@MTC debut, Thelma Houston brings her Motown sound, and some local series favorites from last year will add to the mix. A returning hit at HT@MTC, The Texas Tenors are primed for what’s sure to be another sold-out show! Since appearing on the hit NBC series America’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent: The Champions, The Texas Tenors have performed over 1,300 concerts, released numerous #1 Billboard selling albums, have two PBS specials, won three Emmy Awards, produced four DVDs, and wrote a children’s book with an accompanying song. Join us for an evening full of originals, greatest hits, and the unique The Texas Tenors sound to kick off the 2019-20 season.

Between dropping covers like Robyn’s Show Me Love that soared to #2 on the Billboard dance charts, Crum also was one of the 50 acts from 184 countries chosen to participate in America’s Got Talent: The Champions. He’ll shine bright on the HT@MTC stage in partnership with South Carolina Pride!

Created in collaboration with the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and JMG Live, this modern variety show captures the sights and sounds of Harlem when legendary artists made Harlem the cultural center of the country. Hosted by Michael Mwenso, Harlem 100 presents a portrayal of the most exciting musicians and dancers made famous in the Apollo Theatre, the Cotton Club, and other venues of the Harlem Renaissance. Featuring the music of Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, and Ethel Waters, Harlem 100 celebrates one of the most influential artistic movements in our country. Be sure to join us in the lobby during intermission for a special presentation honoring donors to the MTC Foundation.

He made a name for himself through his funny “Kalen Reacts” videos, giving colorful and clever commentary on culinary concoctions. Today, Kalen holds a regular guest spot on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and often takes his trademark wide-brimmed red hat and infectious personality to high-profile events. Taking place in America during 1947, this rendition of Arthur Miller’s blistering drama stars Academy Award-winner Sally Field (Steel Magnolias, Brothers & Sisters) and Bill Pullman (The Sinner, Independence Day) as Kate and Joe Keller who are a success story. They built a home, raised two sons, and established a thriving business, but nothing lasts forever. Their contented lives, already shadowed by the loss of their oldest son to war, are about to shatter. With the return of a figure from the past, long buried truths are forced to the surface, and the price of their American dream is laid bare.
Each National Theatre Live (NTL) production is performed in front of a live audience in London, recorded with multiple cameras throughout the auditorium, and then screened in theaters across the globe – giving viewers “the best seat in the house.”

This world-renowned company has been featured on So You Think You Can Dance in the U.S. and Australia. Complexions was founded by Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden, former stars of Alvin Ailey. Longtime friends and collaborators Edwin McCain and Patrick Davis are two of the Palmetto State’s songwriting and performing icons. Edwin McCain has already enjoyed an almost 30-year career as both a pop radio mainstay and national songwriting troubadour with songs like I’ll Be and Solitude, while Davis is in the midst of an over 15-year run as a successful Nashville staff songwriter with songs like Where I’m From, My Carolina, and others. Most recently, Davis is the leader of his 12-piece touring and recording outfit, Patrick Davis & His Midnight Choir. These two talented South Carolina friends will share the stage for a one-night-only “Bluebird Cafe-Style” evening of swapping stories and songs.
