IHOP National Pancake Day to benefit GHS Children’s Hospital

March 7, 2016

GREENVILLE, SC – The Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System (GHS) will benefit from the community’s generous hearts, and stomachs, as the local recipient of funds raised through IHOP’s 11th annual National Pancake Day.

On Tuesday, March 8, guests dining in at area IHOPs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. will receive a free short stack of pancakes, and have the opportunity to make a voluntary donation to the Children’s Hospital of GHS, a member of the Children’s Miracle Network.

The support received from this event helps provide programs and services at Children’s Hospital of GHS that are not typically covered under a patient’s insurance. These programs include the Child Life Program, which focuses on reducing the stress of healthcare experiences by utilizing different therapies and coping strategies for children and families. Additional programs supported include pain management treatments such as deep sedation during painful procedures like lumbar punctures and certain biopsies. The children who undergo sedation are monitored by a pediatric critical care physician, have no pain during the process or memory of the process occurring, and are fully recovered from the sedation within 15 minutes.

“Our Child Life therapies and other programs that benefit from National Pancake Day often make the difference in a child’s experience at the hospital,” said Dianne Dillon, Children’s Miracle Network Coordinator at GHS. “We are grateful to the community for their support of this event. Their generosity allows us to continue to provide exceptional care to children and families at every level.”

“We are proud to support our community over the years in this way,” said Ronnie Hawthorne, owner of the Woodruff Park location. “IHOP is a family restaurant at its core, so healthy children and families are incredibly important to us.”
