Inaugural Laurens County Sports Awards to Shine a Spotlight on Local Athletes

March 9, 2025

“Sports’ Biggest Night in Laurens County” will kick off in 2025 with the inaugural Laurens County Sports Awards on Thursday, May 22 at 7pm at Belk Auditorium on the campus of Presbyterian College.

The Laurens County Sports Awards will be an ESPYs-style red carpet event that will recognize athletes and teams from the 2024-2025 season from Clinton High School, Laurens Academy, Laurens District 55 High School and Thornwell Charter School.

“It will be a great night to showcase the phenomenal athletes and teams that have excelled in sports in Laurens County high schools this year,” said Billy Dunlap, organizer of the Laurens County Sports Awards. “We have been blessed with much success this year and it will be a great opportunity to bring everyone together for one night to celebrate those accomplishments as a collective community.”

The Laurens County Sports Awards will be held in conjunction with the induction of the Class of 2025 into the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame. The sixth class of the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame includes Ed Prescott, Travis Langford, Andy B. Young, Stan Whitlock and Hall King.

“Partnering the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame with the Laurens County Sports Awards is a perfect combination,” said Dunlap. “It will allow those Hall of Fame inductees a much larger audience to be recognized in front of and it will also allow those athletes from the local high schools to see some of the legends that have made up the sports landscape of Laurens County throughout the years.”

The Laurens County Sports Awards will present 27 awards and three nominees for each award will be invited to the event.

Tickets for the event will go on sale April 1, 2025.
