Indie Grits 2016 Kicks off this Thursday; All Events Free

Indie Grits, hosted by the Nickelodeon Theatre, the Southeast’s premier film and culture festival for DIY media-makers, will take place April 14-17, 2016 in Columbia, SC. In celebration of ten years of Indie Grits all events are free, thanks to a Central Carolina Community Foundation Connected Communities grant.
This year’s festival will feature pieces by local artists that respond to the festival theme, Waterlines. After the historic flooding South Carolina experienced in October 2015, Indie Grits, hosted by the Nickelodeon Theatre, commissioned works by artists and media-makers to respond and interpret the events our community experienced and is still experiencing. Along with the full festival schedule, there will be two events that include screenings of original films and performances from this artist group.
In addition to a robust film competition with more than 50 films, Indie Grits also hosts music, tech, and art events through the four-day festival.

Thursday, April 14
- 6-10 p.m.: eighth blackbird at Indie Grits
- Friday, April 15
- 7 p.m.: Waterlines Screening and Performance
- 8 p.m.: Weekly Revue Bar Mitzvah (live music at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m., dance party at 10 p.m.)
- 12 – 2 a.m.: Party at The Whig
Saturday, April 16
- 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Kindie Grits: Let’s Make a Monster Movie!
- 12-8:30 p.m.: Indie Grits River Concert featuring Big Freedia
- 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.: After Party at Art Bar
Sunday, April 17
- 1 and 3 p.m.: Puppet Slam
- 1-5 p.m.: Back Alley BBQ
- 4 p.m.: Waterlines Screening and Performance
Thousands of locals and visitors alike who attend the festival will experience four full days of the best short, experimental, animated and student film from novice to experienced filmmakers, music, food and outside-the-box artistic performances from South Carolina and the Southeast. MovieMaker magazine has twice named Indie Grits one of its Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World.
