International manufacturer breaks ground in Richland County
July 1, 2020Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. USA, a specialty chemical manufacturer of raw materials, broke ground Tuesday on its new facility in Southeast Richland.
The groundbreaking marked the start of construction on the 65,000-square-foot production facility in Pineview Industrial Park. The facility at 1700 Longwood Road is expected to come online in the first quarter of 2021.
“We built the Pineview Industrial Park to attract companies like Miwon Specialty Chemical to move to Richland County,” said Richland County Council Chair Paul Livingston. “The company’s decision to locate here demonstrates their commitment to Richland County, and we hope it will lead others to make the same commitment to our community.”
The $20 million investment by Miwon, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. Ltd., is projected to create 25 jobs. Hiring is set to begin later this year.
“This is a very important step for us, as this will be the first production plant in the United States invested by Miwon Specialty Chemical of Korea,” said H.W. Kim, the parent company’s chairman and CEO. “Through this new investment, we hope to increase our presence on a global basis, especially in the USA.”
“We deeply appreciate the support received from the County, and I would like to especially mention the very friendly attitude of all the authorities involved in this project,” Kim said.
Miwon Specialty Chemical Co. Ltd. began serving the ultraviolet and electron beam (UV/EB) markets in 1983. The company produces and supplies raw materials for eco-friendly UV/EB curing systems used in a variety of applications, including high-quality inks for food packaging; special coatings for wood, plastic and metal; and adhesives for DVD/Blu-ray Discs and mobile phones.
