Irmo High School partners with the Michael J. Mungo Foundation

November 17, 2016

For the third straight year, Irmo High School’s after-school program “Irmo Advantage” has partnered with the Michael J. Mungo Foundation to provide academic assistance at no charge. This program is an opportunity for students to gain additional support by accredited teachers to improve student performance in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish as well as to prepare students for the SAT and ACT assessments.

Last year, ninety-five percent of Irmo High School students who regularly participated in Irmo Advantage passed all of their classes. With financial support from the Michael J. Mungo Foundation, the program is held on Monday and Thursday each week from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., and students are provided transportation home after participating in the after-school program.

In addition to funding Irmo Advantage, the Michael J. Mungo Foundation has contributed to numerous projects including funding the decorative brick wall at the corner of Emory Lane and St. Andrews Road, and helping to sponsor the District’s Teacher and Support Employee of the Year programs.

Irmo High School nominated the Michael J. Mungo Foundation as “Volunteer Organization of the Year” in 2016. Principal David Riegel expressed his gratitude for the Foundation stating, “We are so proud to have the Michael J. Mungo Foundation as a valued partner. Having the Irmo Advantage is another example of the many ways the faculty and staff can provide support for our students to become successful. Together with our community partners we celebrate our past legacy of excellence while building a bright future for Irmo High and our students.”
