Jackson welcomes new commanding general who is from Enoree, S.C. and a graduate of S.C. State University

The Army Training Center and Fort Jackson will welcome Brig. Gen. Milford H. “Beags” Beagle Jr., as its new commanding general in a ceremony at 9 a.m.June 22, at Victory Field, adjacent to the Officers’ Club.  Beagle will become the 50th commanding general in Fort Jackson’s history.

Beagle will assume command from Maj. Gen. Pete Johnson, who is leaving Fort Jackson to become the deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

Beagle is coming to Fort Jackson from his position as the deputy commanding general (Support), 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, New York. He was stationed here two years ago as the Commander of the 193rd Infantry Brigade (Basic Combat Training).

Beagle, a native of Enoree, South Carolina, entered the United States Army in 1990 after being commissioned as Infantry officer.

Beagle is a distinguished military graduate of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C. where he earned a BS in Criminal Justice. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Adult Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas and a Master of Science in Advanced Military Studies from the United States Army Command and General Staff College (SAMS), Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Beagle has served as assistant operations officer at the Battalion and Brigade level, he commanded three infantry rifle companies in the 25th Infantry Division and Third U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) respectively; Chief of G3 Plans, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea; Battalion Operations Officer 1st Battalion (M) 9th Infantry Regiment; Brigade Operations Officer 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Ramadi, Iraq and Fort Carson, Colorado; Joint Strategic Planner, Joint Staff J-7; and Executive Assistant to the Vice Director Joint Staff J-7. His most recent assignments were as commander of 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment (CAB) Republic of Korea; Deputy to the Director of Army Staff – DCOM-Army, Camp Eggers, Afghanistan; and Commander, Consolidated Fielding Center, Pol-e-charki, Afghanistan. He has served as an Army War College Fellow with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Washington D.C. He served as the J5 Division Chief for the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDD), Washington, D.C., as the Commander, 193rd Infantry Brigade (Basic Combat Training), Fort Jackson, S.C. and as the Executive Officer to the Vice Chief of Staff, Army before assuming his current duties as the deputy commanding general (Support), 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, New York.

His military awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Non Article 5 NATO medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the Ranger Tab, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Pathfinder, Air Assault and Airborne wings. He is also a recipient of the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award.

He is married with two children.
