February 2, 2021

The National  School Boards Association announced that Richland County School District One (Richland One) School Board Member Jamie L. Devine has been appointed to the Steering Committee of the Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE). A council established by the National School Boards Association (NSBA), CUBE supports excellence in urban school board leadership and is committed to providing all students with an equal opportunity to receive a high-quality education.

Devine is the president-elect of the South Carolina School Boards Association and has more than a decade of service as a Richland One School Board member where he has seen firsthand the challenges of meeting the needs of a diverse student population. South Carolina’s ninth-largest school district, Richland One covers nearly 500 square miles of urban, suburban, and rural communities and educates 24,000 students representing 57 countries and more than 25 languages.

In addition to his school board responsibilities, Devine is the president of Community Assistance Provider, a non-profit focused on providing safe and affordable housing and economic opportunities for low- to moderate-income individuals and families throughout fifteen South Carolina counties.

As a Steering Committee member, Devine will serve as an ambassador for the CUBE program and a leader for urban school board members. He will also help to increase awareness of the unique challenges facing urban school board members through participation in state-level meetings, activities, and ongoing open communication with state associations. Devine will also serve as a liaison for other urban school board members, listening and gathering feedback to enhance CUBE’s benefits and services.
