January 29, One Columbia Launches “Amplify: A Cultural Plan for the Columbia Area.”

January 23, 2018

One Columbia for Arts & History, which advises, amplifies and advocates for the unified arts and history community, announces that it will launch a process to identify a cultural plan for Columbia called “Amplify: A Cultural Plan for the Columbia Area.”

Members of the media and general public are invited to attend the launch.

About Amplify: This 12 to 18-month effort will result in a plan that takes into consideration current trends in the development of arts and culture at a national level, advances the growth of the local and regional creative community and considers ways to expand access to the arts for the region’s culturally diverse and growing population. The plan also seeks to create economic prosperity for the region. Amplify aligns with the City of Columbia’s planning efforts, and the planning process will highlight existing arts, cultural and heritage resources of Columbia and recommend ways to strengthen these valuable assets in our community.

Members of the media and general public are invited to attend the launch.

WHEN: Monday, January 29, 2 p.m.

WHERE: Township Auditorium (1703 Taylor Street).

MORE: One Columbia has worked diligently to inform members of the arts and history community, many of whom will be in attendance at the launch, about Amplify. In the months following the launch, One Columbia and Margie Reese, a renowned arts advocate and arts management professional, will lead a series of community conversations where arts and history advocates and enthusiasts can participate in the planning process.

Several speakers will participate in the Amplify launch, including:
– Mayor Steve Benjamin
– Councilman Sam Davis
– Terrance Henderson, artist

Poet Ed Madden will offer a reading and Indigo Soul will perform. One Columbia board member and architect Heather Mitchell will also speak.
