An Advising Specialist is responsible for advising current and prospective students, promoting good advisement practices, and assisting with academic support. Academic advisors assess students’ needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences to guide them in designing and implementing a successful academic plan. Advisors are also responsible for promoting student success and connecting students with campus resources. This position will serve majors assigned by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success.

• Provide academic advising for assigned majors and monitor student registration. Educate students about course planning and registration processes.
• Navigate students through the major transitions of college enrollment. Maintains an advising load and works directly with students to accomplish educational goals. Key aspects include maintaining the integrity of academic policies while being a student advocate and fostering a culture of student responsibility and success, providing students with information about possible consequences of academic decisions, and creating plans of study. Must maintain current knowledge of degree programs and implement the Student Success Intervention Calendar.
• Maintains accurate data for reports and informed decision-making. Keep advising statistics, work schedule, and other reporting documents up to date. Monitor and respond to students using advising software (Navigate360).
• Support student onboarding by assisting with the assignment of students to academic advisors based on program requirements and individual needs. Actively participate in SOAR (Student Orientation, Advisement, and Registration) events to provide guidance, answer questions, and ensure a smooth transition for new students into the university community.
• Facilitate student success by proactively learning about campus resources and services, and connecting students with appropriate support systems, including academic life coaching, mental health services, health services, financial aid, tutoring, career development, and student engagement opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience working with students to improve academic performance or other relevant higher education experience. A successful background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with student information systems Starfish, Navigate360, and/or Banner is preferred.

Salary: $41,258 – $48,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
