Area Supervisor (Public Works)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under supervision of the Public Works Operations Specialist, the Area Supervisor shall plan, organize, oversee, and monitor the condition of roads and drainage.  The Area Supervisor will coordinate with our Special Projects team and assist with survey work.  The desired individual must understand the general Microsoft Windows computing environment including; Office, Excel, and Outlook.  The ideal candidate will also be able to quickly familiarize him or herself with office automation tools and be able to perform other technical work or job related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The preferred candidate must be able to supervise the daily activities of their work crew, prepare reports of daily activities, and utilize office automation software.  Preference will be given to individuals with strong communication skills, both verbal and written.  A proficiency in land surveying concepts and application is highly desired.  The candidate must be physically able to lift weight up to 50 pounds as well as operate a variety of machinery and heavy equipment.  Job duties routinely involve climbing, bending, and stooping within a work environment that occasionally presents physical challenges.

Qualifications

MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE The ideal candidate must possess an Associates degree in Civil Engineering. This position requires 5 – 7 years of experience operating heavy equipment, supervising road/bridge maintenance, drainage and site work construction activities, or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid SC Class “A” Commercial driver’s license is required or the candidate must be able to be obtain one within 6 months of hire.
