The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Developer designs, builds, and deploys practical AI-powered applications that support enterprise administrative and academic operations. This role leverages Microsoft’s data and AI ecosystem, including Microsoft Fabric, Dataverse, Copilot Studio, and emerging AI Foundry tools, to deliver secure, scalable, and user-centered solutions. The AI Developer implements and supports AI solutions that align with university policy, foster ethical innovation, and improve student and operational outcomes.

This position will work with academic and administrative stakeholders to design AI solutions that align with university policy, foster ethical innovation, and improve student and operational outcomes.

AI Application Development
• Design, build, and support AI-powered applications using Microsoft’s data and AI platforms, including Microsoft Fabric, Dataverse, Copilot Studio, and related services, to address enterprise administrative and academic use cases.
• Implement AI solutions that integrate with existing data sources, workflows, and web-based interfaces to provide secure, scalable, and user-centered functionality.

Support and Collaboration
• Partner with administrative and academic stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into practical AI solutions.
• Support the configuration, testing, and deployment of AI capabilities within approved platforms and governance frameworks.
• Provide guidance on responsible AI use and model limitations in administrative operational contexts.

Enterprise AI Systems Integration
• Collaborate with IT and enterprise system teams to ensure all AI solutions are integrated within existing enterprise platforms and comply with institutional data security, privacy, accessibility, and governance policies.

Testing and Technical Documentation
• Write documentation for developed tools, workflows, and APIs for review and audit. Coordinates with AI Educator.
• Conduct model validation and performance evaluations in controlled environments.

Continuous Learning and Innovation
• Stay up-to-date on emerging AI models, frameworks, and best practices.
• Participate in AI-related communities of practice or consortium activities representing the university.
• Recommend and test new AI techniques that align with the university’s data strategy and digital transformation goals.
• Participate in establishing and maintaining AI governance and responsible AI deployment frameworks, ensuring transparency, fairness, and compliance with university standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education and Experience: Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job-related field and 4 or more years of job-related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job-related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Copilot Studio, Dataverse, and Microsoft AI Foundry.
• Experience supporting web-based user interfaces using HTML and CSS.
• Familiarity with higher education environments, including data privacy and accessibility requirements.
• Ability to work within established security, privacy, and data governance standards.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Salary: $95,423; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Background Check: Successful completion of a background check is required.
• Applied AI and Copilot Development: Knowledge of designing, configuring, and supporting AI-powered solutions using Microsoft AI technologies, including Copilot Studio and emerging Microsoft Foundry capabilities, with an emphasis on practical, policy-aligned use cases rather than model research.
• Microsoft Data and Platform Expertise: Skill in working with Microsoft Fabric, Dataverse, and related data services to enable AI-driven insights, automation, and secure data integration across enterprise systems.
• Web Application Development: Proficiency in modern web development concepts and tools to support AI-enabled user interfaces.
• Enterprise Integration and Security: Ability to integrate AI solutions within approved enterprise platforms while adhering to institutional standards for security, identity management, privacy, accessibility, and data governance.
• Collaboration and Communication: Ability to effectively collaborate with technical teams, faculty, and administrative stakeholders, translating business and operational needs into clear technical solutions and communicating AI capabilities and limitations to non-technical audiences.
• Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot platform, data, and integration issues; evaluate emerging Microsoft AI capabilities; and iteratively improve AI solutions to meet evolving institutional needs.
• Documentation and Governance: Skill in producing clear technical and functional documentation and understanding governance requirements relevant to higher education environments, including FERPA, accessibility standards, and responsible AI practices.
• Customer Service Orientation: Commitment to responsive, high-quality service, providing ongoing support and guidance to users to ensure successful adoption and sustained value of AI solutions.
• Professional Effectiveness: Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a results-oriented environment, manage multiple priorities, respond constructively to feedback, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• The position has a normal 37.5-hour work week under normal office conditions. Occasional work outside normal hours may be required. During peak periods, overtime may be required, and it is expected that the employee will take the necessary steps to meet this requirement.
