The Director of Campus Recreation is responsible for the overall direction and management of all aspects of a multifaceted campus recreation program consistent with the mission of the University which is to provide a variety of leisure activities that are experiential in nature and selected on a basis of their contribution to the physical, psychological, ethical and social lifetime development of the individual. The director provides overall leadership and direction for a comprehensive campus recreation program, which includes fiscal management, risk management, facilities management, and programmatic management. Budget supervision in daily matters and for short- and long-range planning is a significant part of the role.
• Develops, coordinates and implements a variety of leisure activities targeted to individuals of all ages.
• Provides oversight and evaluation of the financial operations.
• Recruits, selects, trains and evaluates staff on an ongoing basis to maintain a viable and dynamic team. Develops a comprehensive policy manual for the facility.
• Maintain compliance with all certification requirements. Maintain accurate record keeping.
• Monitors and tracks programming success, assessment practices for department research and evaluation.
• Coordinates a healthy campus initiative.
• Implements a comprehensive risk management plan for all programs to include manuals, staff training, staff testing. Maintains a clean safe, structured and orderly facility.
• Prepares appropriate reports regarding the impact of the programs on participants. Develops effective marketing and publicity strategies to maximize memberships, retention and promote services and programs.
• Provide overall daily leadership, direction, management, supervision and evaluation of the organizational unit which includes eSports, intramural recreation and a fitness/wellness facility.
• Serves on various administrative committees and represents the department of campus recreation on behalf of the university both internal and externally.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. A good driving record, valid driver’s license, and successful background check are required.
Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree in Recreation Management or related field and 5 years related program experience, or a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management or related field and 7 years related experience.
