Why work for Greenwood County:
Greenwood County is a mid-sized community with a mix of suburban and urban areas. With a population of around 70,000, Greenwood EMS responds to an average of 15,000 medical calls per year. The county staffs five ALS ambulances that deploy from newly renovated stations with private sleeping quarters, common area, kitchen, and bathrooms with showers. Stations also have cable and Wi-Fi included. The county also operates two ALS staffed QRV’s that respond to critical calls as assistance to the primary units. Greenwood has a very established and efficient fire service comprised of paid and volunteer personnel that assist on high acuity calls. In many cases these responders are first on scene ahead of EMS.
Patient transports average around 10 minutes. The longest transport we have is usually no longer than 30 mins. Greenwood EMS transports patients to one hospital as a rule. The only transport decision the provider needs to make is whether a MEDIVAC is needed or Emergent/Non-Emergent return. Our EMS service does very few Inter-facility Transfers. The area has two full-time private services. Greenwood EMS is a backup for those providers. By transporting to only one hospital, our staff have built a good working relationship with the Emergency Room staff. Our staff build friendships, mutual respect, and trust that makes for a positive environment and great patient care.
We are currently in the process of replacing our fleet of units. Most of the units on the road are less than two years old. These units have backup cameras, rear air suspension with air dump, and an automatic sidestep that lowers when the compartment door is opened. All units we have are equipped with Strycker autoloaders. We currently use LifePak 15 cardiac monitors. For advanced airways the provider has a choice of direct laryngoscope or King Vision.
We value our staff and want to give them every opportunity to succeed and advance in their career. We offer a flexible schedule with paid time off to attend classes for Advanced EMT or Paramedic (restrictions apply). We have in-service training monthly for staff.
Greenwood County is a great community to live in. Homes are readily available for both rent and purchase. Cost of living is lower than average for most parts of South Carolina. The area has a large choice of schools ranging from public, private, and charter. Amenities in the area ensure you don’t have to drive long distances for any of your basic needs. The area has lots of restaurants and retail businesses. Outdoor activities are plentiful with Lake Greenwood, the State Park, and National Forest close by. Weather is usually predictable with hot muggy summers and winters that vary between mild to cold snaps. The area does not have issues with regular snow, flooding, or hurricanes.
