Water Operator Trainee

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the surface water treatment plant, and
groundwater systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assists in the daily operation and maintenance of groundwater well systems including hydrant flow
operations.
• Assists in the operation of the surface water treatment plant including plant start up, shut down,
filter operations and instituting alternative water supply procedures.
• Assists with basic water treatment plant and equipment maintenance and checks
• Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings
• Investigates customer water service quality issues
• Installs chlorine, ammonia, and sulfur dioxide cylinders
• Assists in performing chemical operations for the water treatment plant
• Extracts samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analysis and completes required
paperwork
• Operates, calibrates, transports, and performs basic equipment maintenance
• Performs operational checks on wells and treatment plants and records information on operating
records and logs.
• Performs basic electrical functions including resetting and / or restarting equipment and changing
fuses.
• Processes computer work orders
• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards

Required Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental, or related science field.
• Valid SC Driver’s License
• Must be able to obtain a “Class B” Water Treatment license within one year of date of hire
