Join Central Carolina Community Foundation in celebrating Black Philanthropy Month

August is Black Philanthropy Month and Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ local center for philanthropy, invites the community to join them in celebrating Black philanthropy and supporting Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits. The Community Foundation, along with its African American Philanthropy Committee, promotes this important month each year as an opportunity to recognize and uplift the voices of our region’s Black philanthropists.

“Black Philanthropy Month is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the impact of Black philanthropy on our region and beyond,” says JoAnn Turnquist, president and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “In addition to the celebration, Give 8/28, the culmination of Black Philanthropy Month, provides an opportunity for our community to financially support our region’s Black-led-and-benefiting nonprofits.”

Through stories and action-focused communication on social media, the Community Foundation will share how Black philanthropists impact our community with their time, talent and treasure. The Foundation will also support Give 8/28 — the only nationwide giving day for Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits — by distributing $7,000 in matching prizes for local nonprofits. Black Philanthropy Month — TENacity: Making Equity Real

Black Philanthropy Month is a national, coordinated effort to celebrate African American and African-descent giving in all its forms. In celebration of the initiative’s 10th anniversary, this year’s theme, TENacity: Making Equity Real, seeks to inform, involve, inspire and invest in Black philanthropic leadership to strengthen African American and African-descent giving. Founded in 2011 by Dr. Jackie Copeland-Carson and Pan-African Women’s Philanthropy Network, Black Philanthropy Month encompasses self-organized events, community dialogue and charitable giving across the nation. Promoting the Voices of Black Philanthropy in the Midlands

During the month of August, the Community Foundation will share stories of Black philanthropic impact on the Midlands. Each Thursday, Foundation staff members will interview Black philanthropists and Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits to share their philanthropic story. Fourth Annual Give 8/28 Inspires Giving to Black-led and Black-benefiting Nonprofits

The annual Give 8/28 is scheduled for Saturday, August 28. Led by the Young, Black, and Giving Back Institute in Washington, D.C., the national giving day initiative culminates Black Philanthropy Month. Give 8/28 urges people to financially support Black-led and Black-benefiting organizations.

$7,000 in matching grant prizes for local nonprofits on Give 8/28

Registered nonprofits within the Community Foundation’s 11-county footprint raising $500 or more on August 28 through the Midlands Gives platforms will be entered into a drawing for one of 14 $500 matching grant prizes provided in partnership with the Foundation’s African American Philanthropy Committee. Donors can financially support organizations through the Foundation’s year-round platform, www.midlandsgives.org. A new feature on the Midlands Gives year-round platform allows donors to filter their search results to find Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits. The nonprofit recipients of the matching prizes will be announced through the Foundation’s Facebook page after the event.
