Junior Achievement and Lexington One Technology Center partner to inspire students about Careers in STEM

March 27, 2019

On March 28th (8:30am until 3:00pm), Junior Achievement (JA) and Lexington One Technology Center(LTC) will host seventy female high school students from Lexington One High School to show them what career possibilities are available in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. While at LTC on Tuesday, the students will learn from local women in STEM careers. All of these women are here in the Midlands and will expose the students to career possibilities that are available. Through this Junior Achievement experiential learning opportunity, students are prepared to be thinkers and encouraged to develop personal strategies to pursue lifelong learning and career opportunities in STEM related fields.

Michele Lucas, Career Specialist at Lexington Technology Center, stated “It is great to partner with organizations like Junior Achievement who believe in the importance of exposing students to careers. Being able to bring in guests is a great way we can bring to life what we teach out students about careers. By putting a face and name with a future opportunity students are able to make better informed decisions about their career paths.”

Casey Pash, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of Greater South Carolina, stated that “It is great to partner with Lexington One Technology Center to inspire the future in STEM fields, and specifically females. Our guests represent companies here in the Midlands that have job available in STEM careers: they are Companion Data Services, Dayton Rogers Manufacturing Company, Gregory Electric Services, Nephron Pharmaceuticals, and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. These companies value the need of the future workforce in South Carolina and believe in the importance of exposing all students and specifically females to STEM careers. By showing students about career opportunities and explaining what is needed to work in each position, students are more equipped to make those decisions as they enter the workforce in the future. JA continues to appreciate partnerships like these and together we can inspire the future generation to succeed.”
