Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced that Katie Houser has been named the permanent Principal of Midland Park Primary School. Houser, who returned to CCSD earlier this year and has served as Interim Principal for the past several months, has already made a positive impact on the school community through her relationship-focused leadership and commitment to student learning. She brings more than 25 years of experience in early childhood, elementary, and special education, as well as instructional leadership.

Houser previously served as the Director of the N.E. Miles Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) at the College of Charleston, where she led a model early learning environment grounded in inclusion, collaboration, and high-quality instructional practices. Prior to her work at the college, Houser served CCSD in multiple roles, including International Baccalaureate Curriculum Leader, Instructional Resource Teacher, Lead Teacher, and National Board Certified classroom teacher.

“I am a reflective, knowledgeable, and compassionate leader,” said Houser. “Teaching and learning are best supported through a holistic approach and a shared responsibility among children, caregivers, teachers, and stakeholders. My priorities include cultivating strong relationships, implementing effective systems that support staff, ensuring fiscal and program accountability, and advocating for developmentally appropriate practices that help every child thrive.”

Throughout her career, Houser has been dedicated to building nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environments that honor the individuality of each child.

“My experiences from working with two-year-olds through college-age students have taught me the value of strong partnerships between schools, families, and communities,” Houser added. “I look forward to continuing this work at Midland Park Primary and ensuring that every child is seen, heard, nurtured, and loved.”

Superintendent Anita Huggins expressed confidence in Houser’s leadership.

“We are pleased to announce Ms. Houser as the permanent Principal of Midland Park Primary,” said Superintendent Huggins. “Her extensive experience, passion for early childhood education, and unwavering commitment to excellence make her an exceptional fit for this role. We look forward to the positive impact her leadership will bring to students, staff, and the entire Midland Park community.”
