Katie Winch Earns Girl Scout Gold Award
May 11, 2015SPARTANBURG, SC – Twenty-nine high achieving Girl Scouts who demonstrated outstanding leadership through initiating and completing community service projects were recognized with the prestigious Gold Award at Presbyterian College on Sunday, May 3, 2015. Of those, one in attendance was from Spartanburg, Katie Winch,Troop 82.
For her Gold Award project called Healthy Living Through Dance, Girl Scout Ambassador Katie Winch addressed the issue of childhood obesity. Her goal was to educate girls, ages 4-10, about the importance of making healthy food choices, eating the proper portions of food, exercising daily, and maintaining a positive body image. To achieve her goal, she designed and made an educational coloring book and held an event at Ballet Spartanburg where attendees received two, 30-minute dance lessons. Katie’s parents are William and Margaret Wince and her troop leader is Sarah Newman.
