Keep Laurens County Beautiful Seeks Artists for Storm Drain Mural Project

November 29, 2025

Keep Laurens County Beautiful (KLCB) is calling on local artists to help transform up to four storm drains into vibrant public works of art—each designed to remind residents of a simple but often-overlooked truth: what goes into our drains goes directly into our streams.

The initiative blends creativity with environmental education, using painted storm drains as eye-catching reminders to keep litter, chemicals, and pollutants out of local waterways. While many people assume storm drains lead to a treatment facility, they actually carry runoff straight into nearby rivers, lakes, and streams. That means everyday items—trash, auto fluids, yard chemicals, and even pet waste—can quickly become harmful pollution.

“Public art is a powerful way to spark conversation,” KLCB organizers shared. “A beautifully painted storm drain captures attention, but it also communicates an important message about protecting our natural resources.”

KLCB encourages artists of all ages and experience levels to apply. Designs should highlight the theme “Keep It Clean—Drains to Streams!”, inspiring the community to be mindful of what enters storm drains and how personal habits can impact water quality.

How to Participate
There’s still time to submit artwork for the 2025 Storm Drain Mural Contest. Entries are due December 10, 2025.

Artists interested in painting a storm drain should email [email protected] for details, guidelines, and the official mural manual.

By combining art with environmental stewardship, this project offers a creative way to beautify Laurens County while reminding residents that clean waterways begin right at our feet.
